Task#1-Go to our class Google Doc folder>ib 10>Unit 1: Utopia> CargoResearch> and download the 2pointextra.pdf.
Task#2-(#A121)Gather your supplies. (all supplies are on the still life table) Your group will need one large (green box) of oil pastels and 2 small (yellow box) oil pastel. You will need a pieces of the black scrape paper. Make sure your initials are written in the lower right corner on the back of the paper. Look over your colorwheel, think about your color combinations or color schemes. What colors work well together. How can I create transition where need? How can I create contrast where need? Don't start working, but also think about the different techniques we used last year to apply the pastels: Organic/Crosshatching?
Task#1-Reflesh Oil Pastel Knowledge
I will demonstrate the two main process/techniques (organic/crosshatching) for apply oil pastel to render form through transition from shadow to highlight (Shading). The black paper is new this year. It gives the oil pastel a pop of contrast from the dark negative space. We will be using black paper for one of our final products.
Independent Practice:
You will practice various different color schemes and application techniques with the oil pastels. You must create one value scale for crosshatching and one value scale for organic. Try one sphere with each technique to practice a curving form in case your finale design is more organic. The other shapes should be rectangular prism forms... following the basic shape chart diagram for a cube, but stretched out to fit a rectangular prism form. From this point forward use the phrase "rectangular prism" not "block".
Read through the 2ptextra,pdf and complete activities on page 2 and page 5 (refresher from last year). Page 2 (3 cubes one above, one on and one below the horizon line) should be completed on page 16 of your sketchbook (leave room for reflection at the bottom of the page). Page 5 (the letter "E" which could be made completely out of shipping containers) should be completed on page 17 of your sketchbook (leave room for reflection at the bottom of the page).
