- Using the cutting station at your table
- cut out a circle from your Styrofoam plate making sure to only use the flat part of the plate.
- it doesn't have to be perfect.
- Trace your styrofoam plate onto a clean piece of paper
- draw your final simple image from last class on to the circle utilizing as much of the space as possible (you are drawing this on your paper not on your print block).
- see where you can make lines bolder, thicker or even add dye-cut to make the image have more impact
- Play around with cross contour lines to see if you can define the form with simple directional lines (see image examples below)
- Is there any information you can add to the background to make your topic/subject/social issue clearer?
- Start a process slide for our "simple linocut process"
- Take a picture of the sketch you just made in your sketchbook and add it to this slide.
- Also include your original reference image.
- Lightly draw your simple image on to the plate "matrix" with a sharpie, do not apply pressure
- make sure image utilizes the space
- take a picture of your drawing on your printing "matrix"
- make sure you have your image drawing on your matrix and take a picture
- Study your image and decided the best approach for your print
- you will scratch into the matrix surface using a pencil or pen
- Ink will not go anywhere that you scratch the surface
- observe your image and decide what where you want to make your lines
- Once you are done carving your surface take a picture and add to your process slide.
