Go to SchoolSpace>Utopia>2point perspective shipping containers.
Using the pdf as your guide practice creating cargo container forms in 2point perspective. This should be done on a double page spread in your sketchbook to make room for your vanishing points. If you would like to work on a separate piece of paper you may do so as long as it gets glued into your sketchbook. This will be graded on Wednesday, along with your Utopian Mind Map. Your Artist Research is still due this Friday. Don't forget these things are due:
Important Dates: Wednesday 2/18-Utopian Mind Map (#307) Double Page spread explore what ideas and concepts you would like to see in your vision of a Utopian school. Factors to consider: Class size, school layout, school focus (testing vs creative thought), classroom layout, public spaces, divisions: gender, grade, interest, classroom layout, length of school year (year around school), dress code, class length... Friday 2/27 (#308 & #309)-Artist Research Due, no peer review (if you want to go through the peer review process I will give you and your peer time Wednesday in class to look over each others work) Artist research is in the form of a Mind Map. You should have notes from our classroom discussion over what will be required elements of the mind map. The first double page spread will be the Artistic Biography section in a mind map format (#308): brief biographical information, analysis of 3 images from different point in the career or in depth analysis of one body of work, still needs to included 3 images from the body of work, and personal reason for selecting the artist. All work featured on the artist research mind map must be Architecture. Your analysis needs to included (how the artist uses the elements and principles of art, discuss how the subject matter (architecture) and their approach or changing approach to the imagery, how is the artist using his/her materials to render the images, discuss style or changing style, art movements, artist intent (analysis of interviews and or artist statements). Don't forget to also included a personal voice/reason for selecting this artist. You will also need to have a 2nd double page spread: The left side will be your media study based off the artist work. The right side of the page should be your reflection over the media study (process, how the study relates to the artist, what you learned about the artist by making the study, evaluation of your product and state areas for improvement). You will also need to make a works cited section on this page and list all sources used. You should be working from at least 3 sources. Attention to all students/parents who are attending the art field trip to Washington, DC on Monday, February 23rd.
The field trip has been postponed pending inclement weather and the possibility of having a delay school start time. The new field trip date will be Monday, March 2nd. All information will stay the same as before & no new forms need to be filled out or signed. Please plan accordingly. Both Reflection can be on the same document, just label each section. When you are finished with both parts you will need to drop it in the school space drop box>Lessons>Utopia>Pre-Assessment Drop Box. Assessments will need to be dropped in the correct drop box by 12:30pm Tuesday, 2/17.
Pre-Assessment Evaluation/Reflection part I: (participation grade) (#305) Refer to the scoring rubric you were given for your group structure. Reflect on each of the Criteria (Free Standing, Composition, Use of Negative Space, Craftsmanship). For each Criteria elaborate on your process (group dynamics/decision making), areas for improvement and use higher level art vocabulary. Pre-Assessment Evaluation/Reflection part II: (reflection grade) (#306) Refer to the scoring rubric for Pre-Assessment Part II and score your work for each criteria. Reflect on each of the Criteria: Composition (layout of elements on the page), Space (use of perspective and rules for creating space), Creativity, Material Usage/Craftsmanship (how will did you apply the oil pastels). For each Criteria elaborate on your process, areas for improvement and use higher level art vocabulary. After Pre-Assessment: (#310) You should have already reviewed the 1 and 2 point perspective information in the school space folder, which covers rules and creating basic structures in 1 and 2 point perspective. We will be focusing on 2 point perspective using the shipping container form. There will be a demonstration on how to create more extreme angles using 2point perspective. I will be passing out pictures of your group sculpture select a few pictures to glue into your sketchbook. Friday 2/27 (#308 & #309)-Artist Research Due, no peer review (if you want to go through the peer review process I will give you and your peer time Wednesday in class to look over each others work) Friday in class we will be going over and practicing drawing shipping container forms using 2 point perspective. You will also need to evaluation/reflect on both your part 1 (group structure) and part 2 (recreating group structure in 2D using oil pastel) pre-assessments. Remember for all evaluations (for each criteria section) you must state your score/why you feel this should be your score. You must then elaborate on your working process for the section and areas for improvement using higher level art vocabulary in order to receive full credit.
I will be checking your Artist List Mind Map while you work on your evaluation. 9-9:45 - Finish pre-assessment. (composition, space, creativity, Material Usage/Craftsmanship)
(we need to re-organize the oil pastels) (#310)If you are finished with your pre-assessment you may begin to review perspective vocab. Go to the School Space Lesson Folder for Utopia and look over the following documents: perspective vocab, 2 point perspective guide, and 2 perspective shipping container. I will also be going over information about your artist and artist research for this unit. Finish working on your individual pre-assessment. Remember the grading criteria: composition, space, creativity, material usage/craftsmanship. When you are finished with your pre-assessment will start your artist list for this unit. This will be on a double page spread. You will have all the same requirements as other artist list(#204): artist name, website, images of the artist work, statement about the artist work (subject matter/ materials/ movements) as well as why you have selected this artist, but this information will need to be in the form of a mind map. Remember the criteria for mind maps: composition, content, creativity and craftsmanship. You will need to select from the list for below for at least 3 of the artist, your 4th artist can be free choice, but will need to relate to Architecture or Urban Design. Feel free to check out this tumblr page (http://drawingarchitecture.tumblr.com/) You will need to look at the tumblr page from home because it is block at school.
Ikeda Manabu Enoc Perez Levan Mindiashvili Megan McGlynn Robert Scott Gilson Yakov Chernikhov Andre Rocha You will have Monday to complete the Artist List Mind Map, which will be due on Wednesday. Please make sure you your sketchbook is in order for a sketchbook check on Wednesday. This part of the assessment requires you to create a representation of your group structure. You will be scored on the following criteria: Composition, Space (use of perspective), Creativity, and Material Usage (oilpastel) /Craftsmanship. You can not alter the physical structure, you may however use your creativity to add embellishment to the façade, background and foreground. You may start off your image with pencil, ebony, charcoal or free hand oil pastels (your choice). I strongly recommend using a ruler! Please remember that pencil or graphite if pressed too hard will create inconsistency in your paper making it harder to apply oil pastels later.
There will be no open studio this morning. If your group needs to work on their structure you can come in Wednesday morning at 8:30.
