Warm up:
Get your Paper Experiments out of the drying rack and get them glued into your sketchbook along with your reflection. If you need to add anything to your Paper Experiment or work on your artist research media study you may do that today. You must decided what paper you would like to use for this project. In class: Write in sketchbook!!! Criteria A: Descriptor ii demonstrate understanding of the role of art form in original or displaced contexts Describe your object in it original appearance (size, color, brand...). What is it? What was it's functions? Can you give any background information about your object? Describe your objects original setting? Describe the original aesthetics of your object. Does the objects visual aesthetics impacts it function? How or why not? Does your object have meaning or significance? Why? If not how have you given it meaning by wrapping it? How have you now changed all these things by wrapping your object? Elaborate on your object in a new contexts from a purely visual/aesthetics view point. First come First serve: Email me your seating preferences. [email protected]
Subject Section: Seating body: Your name and who you would like to sit at your table. There is only one table with 3 seats so the first group I receive an email from will get that table. Make sure list your order by preference so that I know who you would like to be in your two person group if you don't get the 3 person table. Warm-up:
Glue in your Charcoal/Watercolor/Gesso Experiment (make sure you have your reflection). Get out your wrapped object. In class: Paper Experiment Step 1: 10 minutes for each drawing Using your Wrapped object as your subject create a charcoal sketch on each of the papers (Tag Board & Watercolor). You may zoom in on one area. I suggest working large so that you have space in order to experiment with the material and explore application techniques with the different paper. Remember to use the eraser to blend mid-tones, shadows and highlights once you have applied the charcoal sketch to the different papers. Look over your two other media studies and reflections so that you can assess what worked or didn't work in your last experiments. Step 2: 10 minutes for each wet material Begin using wet materials on the two papers. On the Tag Board you will start with gesso as your wet material, where as on the Watercolor paper you will start with watercolor as your wet material. Add wet material to one charcoal drawing, then let it dry while you add wet material to the other. Remember once you have added a wet material it will need to be dry before you can erase or add more charcoal. I have two hair dryers that can be used to speed the process up. Step 3: Finish apply materials and reflect on what you learned. What paper will work best for your style? Why? Compare and Contrast the two papers and what they allow you to do with the materials. Discuss application process and techniques used during experimentation. Warm up:
Wrap your object. In Class: We will finish the media study we started on Friday (Charcoal/Watercolor), You can go back into the drawing with charcoal to define folds and push shadows, you may also use the eraser at this point because everything is dry. You will then work with gesso to show highlights and work back in with watercolor as well. Experiment with different techniques and ways of combining the materials. Reflection: Charcoal/Watercolor/Gesso-reflect on process and application of materials. Discuss strengths and weakness, frustrations and enlightenments. What do you need to do differently? Compare and contrast with Charcoal/Gesso. Which process did you enjoy more? Why? Which outcome do you feel is stronger? Why? Wrapped Object-Describe the object your wrapped and why you selected this object. Discuss your wrapping process and how you decided to wrap the object. How did these decisions impact the visual aesthetic of your object? Would you do anything differently? Why? In class: We will finish going over Artist Research Criteria and layout. Please note the following important dates:
Wrapped Object: Wednesday, Sept. 24th. Bring in Object to wrap, I will provide some fabric, but if you want a specific type of fabric or thread/string you will need to bring that in as well. Artist Research Peer Review: Monday, Oct. 6th Artist Research must be complete and properly placed in your sketchbook for peer review. Sketchbook Assessment: Wednesday, Oct. 8th This gives you a time to make any corrections needed before I assess and score your work. You will need to make any changes needed before class as well as respond to your peer's feedback to you. Warm-up: Glue down the Charcoal/Gesso study from last class with your reflection to create a double page spread.
In class: Using the 8x10 media study paper create a new charcoal drawing based of the artist fabric studies. You can select a different image or work with the same one that you are familiar with from last class. Block in value/form/folds with charcoal. Use the eraser to blend and get a range of mid-tones. Don't let the charcoal get too dark. Watercolor/Charcoal: Watercolor will be used to add intensity and color to your value study along with blending to create mid-tones. Wrapped Introduction/Artist Research: We will go over the Wrapped powerpoint and discuss what you will be creating for this unit as well as how we will use artist research to plan and create our final image. The powerpoint called "wrapped" will be located in the documents drop down bar under ib 10. Please look over your grades and make sure everything is correct. Let me know if you have a question or if something was posted in error. Also I have bag of supplies left on my desk. I think I know who they belong to, but if you guys could check your grades and see if you are missing your "classroom supply" grade and come talk to me if you think they are your supplies.
